If you are sensitive to SL (feel psychological pressure when hitting SL), you can increase this value to reduce the probability of hitting SL. For example, with XAUUSD 2 digits, you can set Stop Loss = 3000 to 5000, with XAUUSD 3 digits, you can set Stop Loss = 30000 to 50000. Setting a large SL value is often suitable for users who prefer continuous profits.
In addition, improve the actual conditions to improve the results. For example, trading with spread = 20 is often better than spread = 50, so choose a lower spread account type to optimize. Similar to slippage, broker quality, lag, latency, vps... Because actual fluctuations and bad conditions such as high spread, high slippage, lag, high latency also often cause SL to be hit more often.

The result on any day when the EA was active is completely different from backest on mt4 for the same day. The backtest has impressively higher success rate.... somethings amiss here. The latency is < 5m, the average spread is 1.5 and slippage is not an issue at all. Could you please explain?

This is actually normal behavior. MT4 backtests are simulations, not real-market reproductions. Even with low latency, tight spreads, and minimal slippage, live trading is affected by factors that backtesting cannot fully model, such as real tick sequencing, execution priority, liquidity, and broker-side execution rules.
Because of that, results on a specific day will almost never match the backtest exactly, and backtests often look better than live results.
My suggestion is to treat the backtest as a structural reference, not a performance guarantee. You can try optimizing conditions gradually — for example:
+ Test with a different broker or account type
+ Compare ECN vs Pro/RAW or Cent accounts
+ Adjust risk and execution-related parameters
Different environments produce different outcomes, and finding the setup that works best for your broker and conditions is part of the process.
