Gold pullbacks with hourly trend confirmation
When gold pulls back during an established trend, Atlas waits for the five-minute candle to close before deciding whether to enter. The fifteen-minute and hourly trends must agree. You choose a risk budget in euros; Atlas sizes the position against the distance to its stop.
See the strategy in the charts below. Follow the balance after each trade, compare winning and losing months, and trace a trailing stop from entry to exit on a gold chart.
What triggers a trade?
For a buy, the hourly 20-period exponential moving average must be above the 50-period average and higher than it was three completed hourly candles ago. Atlas then looks for a pullback near the M5 fast average and a bullish close. Sells follow the reverse rules. A spread that is too wide, insufficient margin or a broker minimum lot above your risk budget can all cause Atlas to skip an entry.
How a position exits
The initial stop sits beyond the recent four-bar extreme, with room for volatility. Once the trade moves one initial stop distance in your favour, Atlas trails price at 1.5 times that distance. There is no fixed profit target. A reversal can give back part of an open gain. Keep MT5 connected with trading permissions enabled for stop updates.
Inside the historical test
January–October 2026, published Market edition, XAUUSD M5, IC Markets EU. Starting balance €10,000; leverage 1:30; €20 calculated risk budget. MT5 reported 99% real ticks and 1,043 closed trades. The simulated net result was +€1,002.29, with a profit factor of 1.10 and maximum relative equity drawdown of 7.81%. The test included simulated swap and charged zero commission. Actual spreads, fees and fills depend on your broker. Forward observation uses paper positions.
Test it with your own broker
Open XAUUSD M5 in the MT5 Strategy Tester. Set your deposit, leverage and commission, then compare entries, drawdown and losing months with the charts here. For live use, attach one instance, check the inputs and grant algorithmic trading permission when ready. The Market edition defaults to EnableOrders=true and trades gold quoted in US dollars, even when attached to another chart. On netting accounts, reserve that symbol for one strategy.
Risk on a small account. €20 is 4% of a €500 balance per trade. The €60 daily limit blocks new entries; an open position can still lose value. Slippage, gaps and costs can take the realised loss above the calculated budget.
