Lion Rock Gold Trend is a trend-following Expert Advisor for gold (XAUUSD). It trades only when the M5, M15 and 4-hour trends agree, uses a stop loss on every trade, and exits when the trend turns. Signals are calculated on M5, so it can be attached to any XAUUSD chart timeframe. It follows one idea: trade only in the direction of a clear trend, and stay in the trade while the trend lasts.
How it trades
The EA builds a trend line from Heikin Ashi candles and the average true range. A signal appears when this line turns on M5. The signal is used only if the M15 trend line points the same way and the 4-hour market is trending in that direction: price must be more than one ATR beyond the 4-hour EMA 50, and the daily ADX must be at least 20. Entry is a stop order at the signal candle's high or low, valid for one candle. The stop loss is placed at the trend line. The trade closes when the M5 trend line turns against it. An optional fixed take profit in R is available; it is off by default.
Risk management
- Every trade has a stop loss from the moment it opens.
- Position size is calculated from the percent of equity you set (default 0.5%).
- One position at a time. No grid, no martingale, no averaging, no hedging.
- If the minimum lot would risk more than twice the set percent, the trade is skipped.
Backtest results
MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester, XAUUSD, signals on M5, 0.5% risk per trade:
- Exness data, 10,000 USD starting balance, 1 September 2024 to 24 October 2026: 156 trades, profit factor 2.34, 46% winning trades, net +3,487 USD (+35%), maximum equity drawdown 4.3%.
- Exness data, 3,000 USD starting balance, same period: 145 trades, net +939 USD (+31%), maximum equity drawdown 4.0%.
- FTMO data, 100,000 USD starting balance, 1 January 2021 to 27 October 2026: 469 trades, profit factor 1.54, maximum equity drawdown 11.5%.
Year by year on the FTMO data, including swap: 2021 +4.2%, 2022 -3.8%, 2023 +2.5%, 2024 +8.5%, 2025 +37.2%, 2026 to October +4.2%. Most of the profit came in 2025, a strong trending year for gold; in sideways years the result was small or negative. These are backtest results, not live trading results, and past results do not guarantee future results.
What to expect
About 6 trades per month. Fewer than half of the trades are winners; most of the profit comes from a smaller number of long trends. In sideways markets the EA can have several small losses in a row.
Recommendations
- Symbol: XAUUSD, any chart timeframe (signals use M5). The EA runs on other symbols, but only XAUUSD has been tested by the author.
- Minimum balance: 3,000 USD at the default 0.5% risk. On smaller accounts the EA skips trades whose minimum lot would risk more than twice the set percent; in testing, a 1,000 USD account took 46 of 156 trades and a 3,000 USD account took 145.
- Run it on a VPS or a computer that stays on during market hours.

- Risk: risk per trade (% of equity, default 0.5); minimum-lot risk limit (default 2.0).
- Trend line: signal timeframe (M5); ATR period (10); ATR multiplier on the signal timeframe (3.0); ATR multiplier on the filter and regime timeframes (3.0); filter timeframe (M15); bars used (500).
- Market regime: trade only when trending (true); regime timeframe (H4); minimum distance beyond the regime EMA 50 (1.0 ATR); daily ADX level for no trades (20).
- Exit: take profit in R (0 = off).
- General: magic number; order comment.
