Apex Crypto Momentum trades BTCUSD on one idea: crypto pays trend
continuation and punishes counter-trend entries, and the breakouts worth taking
are the ones that emerge from a quiet stretch. Once volatility is already
elevated, most of the move is spent.
How a trade is built
1. Trend filter (H4). Fast EMA above/below slow EMA, and the fast EMA must
be sloping, measured in ATR units so the threshold means the same thing in
every volatility regime. No trend, no trade -- in either direction.
2. Volatility squeeze. The engine looks back over recent bars for a genuine
compression in ATR. If the market has not been quiet, the breakout is
treated as already extended and skipped.
3. Donchian breakout (H1), with the trend only. Price must close beyond the
N-bar extreme -- a close, not a wick.
4. Range expansion. The breakout bar itself must be wide relative to ATR,
which filters the drifting, low-conviction breaks.
5. ATR stop, partial, chandelier trail. Every position gets a hard ATR stop
at entry. Part of the position is banked at the target, the stop moves to
break-even, and the remainder is trailed from the best price reached -- crypto
returns are fat-tailed, so the runner is trailed rather than closed at a
fixed target.
What it will not do
- No martingale. No grid. No averaging down. No recovery lot sizing.
- No trade is ever opened without a stop loss.
- Nothing repaints: all decisions are taken on closed bars.
- No DLLs, no external dependencies, no web calls.
Risk control
Position size is derived from the actual stop distance and your account's live
tick value, targeting a fixed % of equity. Three presets ship (0.5% / 1% / 2%).
On top of that: a daily loss cap, a drawdown kill switch, a trades-per-day cap,
a one-position limit, an ATR-relative spread filter and a margin pre-check.
Setup
Attach to a BTCUSD chart, pick a risk preset, done. It is a 24/7 engine -- no
session windows, no Friday logic, no rollover assumptions. Use the free demo
button to backtest on your own broker's history before buying.
Honest notes
- Validated on BTCUSD and confirmed on ETHUSD. On any other symbol the EA says
so in the log and on the chart panel rather than implying evidence it lacks.
- It trades roughly 30-35 times a year. This is not a high-frequency product,
and a quiet month is normal behaviour, not a fault.
- 2025 was the weakest year in testing. The engine needs directional regimes and
gives some back in chop. That is a property of trend following, not a bug.
- Published backtests are 1-minute OHLC modelling on one broker's history. Your
spreads and fills will differ. Run the free demo yourself.
