Two Trading Strategies. One Structured Execution System.
XAU DualArc is an algorithmic Expert Advisor developed for MetaTrader 5, with a primary focus on XAUUSD (Gold).
The EA combines two independent trading approaches: Range-Compression Scalping and Opening Range Breakout (ORB). Both strategies operate through a shared execution and risk-management framework designed to evaluate market conditions, identify trading setups, and manage positions using predefined rules.
Rather than relying on a single entry technique, XAU DualArc uses two distinct signal engines to study different types of intraday price movement.
1. Dual Strategy Trading Engine
Strategy 1 — Range-Compression Scalping
The Scalp engine searches for periods when price movement becomes relatively compressed.
It evaluates a recent candle range against the Average True Range (ATR) and looks for confirmed price breakouts beyond the identified range.
Main functions:
-
Detects price-range compression.
-
Uses ATR to evaluate market volatility.
-
Identifies bullish and bearish breakout signals.
-
Calculates stop-loss levels from the setup structure.
-
Applies a configurable risk-to-reward target.
-
Uses closed-candle information for signal evaluation.
This approach is designed to explore short-term trading opportunities following a period of price consolidation.
Strategy 2 — Opening Range Breakout (ORB)
The ORB engine monitors an opening range constructed from a configurable number of candles within a trading session.
Once the opening range is established, the EA looks for a confirmed breakout above or below its boundaries.
Main functions:
-
Builds a session-based opening range.
-
Detects confirmed bullish and bearish breakouts.
-
Calculates structure-based stop-loss and take-profit levels.
-
Supports configurable session timing.
-
Includes a maximum-trades-per-session control.
-
Supports rule-based re-entry after a stop-loss event.
The ORB engine provides an additional trading approach based on session price structure.
2. Time-Based Position Management
XAU DualArc v3.32 includes a configurable position-holding time limit.
The current research configuration uses a 90-minute Time Stop for both Scalp and ORB positions.
When a position reaches its configured holding-time limit, the EA attempts to close it, subject to market availability and broker execution conditions.
The time limit can be adjusted independently for each strategy.
This mechanism provides an alternative to relying exclusively on stop-loss or take-profit execution.
Important: Positions may remain open beyond the configured time limit if the market is closed or a closing request cannot be executed.
3. Integrated Risk Management
Risk management is a central part of the EA's design.
The system includes:
-
Fixed-lot and risk-percentage position sizing.
-
Maximum risk limit per trade.
-
Aggregate open-position risk control.
-
Daily loss-limit protection.
-
Floating-loss monitoring.
-
Spread filtering.
-
Available-margin checks and margin reserve.
-
Broker minimum, maximum, and step-volume checks.
-
Directional volume-limit checks.
-
Quote-freshness and stale-signal protection.
These controls are intended to reduce avoidable execution problems and enforce configurable trading limits. They do not eliminate market risk or guarantee protection against losses.
4. Optional Smart Entry Filters
For additional strategy research, XAU DualArc includes optional entry filters:
Trend Filter: Uses moving-average alignment on a higher timeframe.
ADX Filter: Evaluates trend strength before permitting selected entries.
Candle Quality Filter: Examines candle structure and breakout confirmation.
Session Filter: Restricts selected entry signals to configurable trading hours.
Each strategy can use these filters independently.
The optional filters are disabled in the baseline configuration and can be evaluated individually in Strategy Tester.
5. Additional Position Management Features
The EA also includes optional trade-management tools:
-
Break-even stop-loss adjustment.
-
ATR-based trailing stop.
-
Partial profit-taking on supported hedging accounts.
-
Configurable management thresholds.
-
Stop-loss modification safeguards.
-
Order and position-state reconciliation.
Break-even, ATR trailing, and partial profit-taking are disabled by default in the v3.32 research configuration.
6. Broker-Aware Execution
XAU DualArc includes an execution framework that checks trading conditions before sending orders.
Its safeguards cover:
-
Trading-session availability.
-
Market-closed response handling.
-
Broker volume restrictions.
-
Available margin.
-
Spread and quote conditions.
-
Stop-level and order-state validation.
The system also distinguishes between hedging and netting account behaviour.
On hedging accounts, the Scalp and ORB strategies can maintain separate positions. On netting accounts, position management follows the platform's single-position-per-symbol structure.
7. Configurable Parameters
Users can configure the main research parameters, including:
| Parameter | Default Research Setting |
|---|---|
| Primary market | XAUUSD |
| Scalp timeframe | M5 |
| ORB timeframe | M5 |
| Scalp risk-to-reward | 9.0 |
| ORB risk-to-reward | 3.0 |
| Scalp maximum holding time | 90 minutes |
| ORB maximum holding time | 90 minutes |
| Risk-percentage sizing | Enabled |
| Break-even management | Disabled |
| ATR trailing stop | Disabled |
| Partial profit-taking | Disabled |
| Smart entry filters | Disabled |
These values are configuration defaults, not recommended settings for every broker or market condition.
8. Testing and Diagnostics
XAU DualArc includes diagnostic logging and research features that help users examine strategy behaviour in MetaTrader 5 Strategy Tester.
Available functionality includes:
-
Strategy-specific trade identification.
-
Execution and risk-filter logs.
-
Position-management diagnostics.
-
Trade-history inspection.
-
Optional CSV diagnostics.
-
Compatibility with historical tick-data testing.
These tools support systematic testing, troubleshooting, and comparison of strategy configurations.
9. What Makes XAU DualArc Different?
The main design characteristics of XAU DualArc are its combination of two independent entry models and a shared, configurable risk and execution framework.
Its distinguishing features include:
-
Two entry strategies: Scalp and ORB.
-
Separate strategy parameters and trade identification.
-
Configurable time-based position management.
-
Multiple risk and broker-execution safeguards.
-
Optional technical filters.
-
Detailed diagnostics for strategy development.
The system is designed around transparent, configurable trading rules rather than claims of automatic or guaranteed profitability.
10. Compatibility and Current Release Status
Platform: MetaTrader 5
Primary instrument: XAUUSD (Gold)
Primary timeframe: M5
EA version: 3.32
The current build is intended for backtesting, evaluation, and demo-account testing. It has not been established as a production-ready live-trading system.
Trading results depend on market conditions, broker specifications, historical data quality, spreads, commissions, and execution behaviour.
Risk Disclaimer
Trading leveraged financial instruments involves substantial risk. Stop-loss orders, position sizing controls, and time-based exits cannot guarantee that losses will remain within predefined limits.
Historical backtests do not guarantee future performance. XAU DualArc should be evaluated carefully in a suitable testing environment before any wider use.
