Aurum Donchian Breakout

Aurum Donchian Breakout Free is a free breakout Expert Advisor for MetaTrader 5. It trades breakouts of the 55-bar H4 Donchian channel with stop orders, an ATR-based stop and a fixed ATR target.

Position size is a fixed percentage of the current balance, so the lot size grows and shrinks with the account.

Logic

  • Builds the 55-bar H4 Donchian channel (highest high, lowest low).
  • Places a buy stop above the channel and a sell stop below it.
  • Initial stop is 0.8 x daily ATR from the entry.
  • Take-profit target is 4.0 x daily ATR.
  • Positions close after 120 hours if still open.
  • Lot size = 1% of balance at risk, so it compounds.

  • Level timeframe: H4
  • Channel length: 55 bars
  • Initial stop: 0.8 x daily ATR
  • Exit style: Fixed target
  • Exit distance: 4.0 x daily ATR
  • Max hold: 120 hours
  • Entry offset: 0.03 x daily ATR
  • Daily ATR period: 14
  • Max spread: 0.05 x daily ATR
  • Magic number: 861002

The defaults were selected for BTCUSD. The EA runs on any symbol and chart, but other symbols need their own testing and settings. Attach it to one chart per symbol; the chart timeframe does not change the logic.

Historical simulation

MT5 Strategy Tester simulation on BTCUSD, 2019-01-01 to 2026-09-30, 1-minute OHLC model, USD 5,000 start, default inputs. Per calendar year: 2019: +17.4%, 2020: +28.7%, 2021: +21.5%, 2022: +6.4%, 2023: +25.2%, 2024: +12.4%, 2025: +3.8%, 2026: +9.5%. Trades: 397. Maximum equity drawdown: 11.3%. This is a simulation on one broker's price history. It is not live trading and does not predict future results.

Important limits

Breakout systems have long flat or losing periods. Results depend on the broker's spread, swap, contract size and trading hours. Test on a demo account first and use risk you can afford to lose. Trading decisions remain with the user.
