What is Structure Flow?
Structure Flow is a scalping Expert Advisor (EA) for MetaTrader 5 designed primarily to trade XAUUSD (Gold/USD), although it can work with any high volatility and high trading volume asset, such as US indices (US30, NAS100, SP500) or major currency pairs.
The strategy combines price structure analysis with trend, strength, and volume filters to open short-term trades with a controlled risk profile.
How does it work?
1. Market classification (Largest timeframe)
Before trading, the EA assesses the market context on the configured higher timeframe (H1 by default). Using two EMAs (one fast and one slow) and the ADX indicator, it determines if the market is in:
• Uptrend: Fast EMA > Slow EMA, price above Fast EMA, strong ADX and +DI > -DI
• Bearish trend: Fast EMA < Slow EMA, low Fast EMA price, strong ADX and -DI > +DI
• Lateralization: Flat or interlaced EMAs, weak ADX
2. Support and resistance detection (Execution timeframe)
The Expert Advisor (EA) identifies support and resistance levels by analyzing the last N values (configurable) of the execution timeframe. For each local low, it counts how many other candles touched that level within a tolerance of ATR x 0.3. The level with the most confirmations is used as active support. The same process is applied in reverse for resistance.
3. Input Logic
Entry conditions depend on the market mode:
• Bullish trend mode: only open LONG trades. Wait for the price to retrace to support, a confirmed bullish candlestick to form, and volume to exceed the average.
• Bearish trend mode: only open SHORT trades. Wait for rejection at resistance with a bearish candlestick and confirmed volume.
• Sideways mode: open LONG from support to resistance, and SHORT from resistance to support.
4. Operation Management
- Stop Loss: structurally located below the support (longs) or above the resistance (shorts), with a buffer proportional to the ATR to avoid activations due to noise.
- Take Profit: In trend mode, the target is placed at the SL x R/R ratio (default 3:1). In sideways mode, the target is the opposite end of the range.
- Trailing Stop: This is only activated in trend mode when the price moves sufficiently in the trend. It is not used in sideways markets—the trade closes at the take profit/stop price or upon reaching the structural target.
