Golden Eclipse MT5

GOLDEN ECLIPSE — a gold grid that adjusts to volatility.

Gold can move a few dollars on a quiet day and tens of dollars on a busy one. Fixed pip distances that work in one year often fail in the next. GOLDEN ECLIPSE measures daily volatility and sets its step distances and trailing exit from it, so the grid widens when gold is volatile and tightens when it is calm.

Backtest (MT5, XAUUSD M5, every tick, 10,000 USD, 1:100, first lot 0.01)

  • Period 2021.01 – 2026.10: net profit +2,301 USD, profit factor 1.44
  • Win rate 90.4% (254 wins in 281 trades), longest winning streak 52
  • Maximum drawdown 14.2% of equity (about 1,420 USD), 12.3% of balance (about 1,230 USD)
  • 4 basket stops during the test

Backtest results are not a guarantee of future results.

What makes it different

  • Volatility-adaptive distances. Step distance, trailing start and trailing distance are all multiples of daily volatility.
  • Daily market regime. The EA classifies the daily trend as up, range or down. New buy baskets are opened in up and range markets; new sell baskets only in down markets. Open baskets are always managed.
  • Optional news filter (MT5 version, live only). Uses the MetaTrader economic calendar to pause new baskets after important releases. Off by default; not available in the Strategy Tester.

Risk limits (default inputs)

  • Maximum 10 positions per side, so the largest possible position size is known in advance.
  • Basket stop: if the floating loss of one side reaches 8% of the balance, that side is closed.
  • Averaging pauses while a strong trend is running against the basket.
  • Margin check before every order. If free margin is not enough, the order is skipped.
  • A pause after server midnight, no-entry hours and no-entry days of the month.

Recommendations

  • Symbol: XAUUSD / GOLD (symbol suffixes are recognized)
  • Timeframe: M5
  • Starting lot 0.01 per 10,000 USD as a guide. Spreads on gold differ a lot between brokers; please test with your broker first.
  • VPS recommended.

Platform notes

  • MT5 version: designed for hedging accounts. On a netting account it runs in single-position mode (no averaging).
  • MT4 version: same trading logic and default inputs. The economic-calendar news filter is not available in MT4.
  • On other symbols the EA can be tested in the Strategy Tester, but on a live chart it does not open new trades.

Main inputs

  • Trade direction, magic number, max spread, slippage
  • Volatility scaling on/off and multipliers for distance, step, trailing start and trailing distance
  • Market regime filter on/off and its period
  • News filter (MT5 only: currency, importance, pause hours)
  • First lot, max positions, lot pattern, basket stop, time exit
  • Trading days, no-entry hours, no-entry days, margin check

Important
Grid trading can hold losing positions for a long time and can close them at a loss through the basket stop. Use only money you can afford to lose.
