Dual Aurora MT5

DUAL AURORA — a patient NZDCAD grid with wide steps.

DUAL AURORA trades NZDCAD on the M5 chart. NZDCAD is a pair of two commodity currencies that often moves inside a broad range. DUAL AURORA uses wide distances between positions (around 200 pips), so it adds positions rarely and waits for price to come back.

Backtest (MT5, NZDCAD M5, every tick, 10,000 USD, 1:100)

  • Period 2017.01 – 2026.10: net profit +4,184 USD, profit factor 2.28
  • Every calendar year from 2017 to 2026 ended positive
  • No basket stop was triggered during the test
  • Maximum drawdown 12.15% of equity (about 1,215 USD), 2.88% of balance (about 288 USD)
  • About 19 baskets per year

Backtest results are not a guarantee of future results.

Risk limits (default inputs)

  • Maximum 10 positions per side, so the largest possible position size is known in advance.
  • Basket stop: if the floating loss of one side reaches 16% of the balance, that side is closed.
  • Averaging pauses while a strong trend is running against the basket.
  • Margin check before every order. If free margin is not enough, the order is skipped.
  • Max spread filter, a pause after server midnight, no-entry hours and no-entry days of the month.

Lot size multiplier
The whole lot sequence is scaled with one input, "Lot size multiplier", so the ratio between steps stays the same. The default is 2.0 (first lot 0.02). The Experts log shows the full lot sequence when the EA starts. Larger multipliers increase the drawdown in the same proportion; we do not recommend going above the default for a 10,000 USD account.

How it trades

  • Buy and sell baskets work independently.
  • New baskets start only when price is inside its recent support/resistance range and the entry filters agree.
  • Exit: when the basket profit from the average price reaches the trailing start, a trailing stop follows it and closes the whole basket.
  • Because the steps are wide, a basket can stay open for days or weeks (median about 11 – 15 days). Swap is part of the result.

Recommendations

  • Symbol: NZDCAD (symbol suffixes are recognized)
  • Timeframe: M5
  • Account: hedging account (MT5). 10,000 USD or more with the default multiplier 2.0.
  • VPS recommended, because baskets can stay open for a long time.

Platform notes

  • MT5 version: designed for hedging accounts. On a netting account it runs in single-position mode (no averaging).
  • MT4 version: works on standard MT4 accounts.
  • On other symbols the EA can be tested in the Strategy Tester, but on a live chart it does not open new trades.

Main inputs

  • Trade direction, magic number, max spread, slippage
  • Base lot, lot size multiplier, max positions, averaging lot factor, averaging distance and step
  • Basket stop (% of balance), time exit (days, off by default)
  • Trailing start and trailing distance (or fixed take profit)
  • Trading days, no-entry hours, no-entry days, margin check

Important
Grid trading can hold losing positions for a long time and can close them at a loss through the basket stop. Use only money you can afford to lose.
