# MetaQuotes Support Request — XAUUSD tick-value discrepancy

**Subject:** XAUUSD on MetaQuotes-Demo: CFDLEVERAGE tick-value fields differ by 10× from `OrderCalcProfit`

Dear MetaQuotes Technical Support,

I am requesting clarification of an apparent inconsistency in the XAUUSD symbol specification on the MetaQuotes-Demo server. The diagnostic checks described below were read-only: no orders were sent and no positions were opened.

## Observed symbol data

The captured account currency and XAUUSD profit currency are both USD. The exact symbol name is `XAUUSD`. The symbol properties reported by MT5 are:

| Property | Reported value |
|---|---:|
| `SYMBOL_TRADE_CALC_MODE` | `SYMBOL_CALC_MODE_CFDLEVERAGE` |
| `SYMBOL_TRADE_CONTRACT_SIZE` | 100 |
| `SYMBOL_TRADE_TICK_SIZE` | 0.01 |
| `SYMBOL_TRADE_TICK_VALUE` | 0.1 USD |
| `SYMBOL_TRADE_TICK_VALUE_PROFIT` | 0.1 USD |
| `SYMBOL_TRADE_TICK_VALUE_LOSS` | 0.1 USD |
| `SYMBOL_CURRENCY_PROFIT` | USD |
| `SYMBOL_CURRENCY_MARGIN` | USD |
| `SYMBOL_POINT` / `SYMBOL_DIGITS` | 0.01 / 2 |

The terminal Specification dialog and the Python `symbol_info` capture both report the tick-size/value and contract-size values above. The Python capture identifies the server as `MetaQuotes-Demo`, account currency USD, terminal company MetaQuotes Ltd., MetaTrader5 Python package 5.0.6231, and timestamp `2026-10-29 06:01:28 UTC` (capture started). The account-group identifier and terminal build are not included in the saved Python report.

## Profit calculation observations

For volume 0.01, the Python API `order_calc_profit` returned the following. BUY checks opened at Ask and closed lower; SELL checks opened at Bid and closed higher, so each is an adverse price move.

| Price move | BUY open → close | Python result | SELL open → close | Python result | MQL5 result reported by user, BUY and SELL |
|---:|---:|---:|---:|---:|---:|
| 0.01 | 4027.29 → 4027.28 | -USD 0.01 | 4026.91 → 4026.92 | -USD 0.01 | -USD 0.01 |
| 0.10 | 4027.29 → 4027.19 | -USD 0.10 | 4026.91 → 4027.01 | -USD 0.10 | -USD 0.10 |
| 1.00 | 4027.29 → 4026.29 | -USD 1.00 | 4026.91 → 4027.91 | -USD 1.00 | -USD 1.00 |
| 7.27 | 4027.29 → 4020.02 | -USD 7.27 | 4026.91 → 4034.18 | -USD 7.27 | -USD 7.27 |

The MQL5 results in the last column are from a manually run diagnostic script and are user-reported. The summary supplied to us did not include the MQL5 run's exact Bid/Ask, entry/exit prices, terminal build, or server line. Thus the reported result values match the Python values, but identical terminal/session context and exact input prices have not been independently checked. The full MQL5 Experts/Journal output can be provided if needed.

## Basis for the question

The MQL5 reference describes `SYMBOL_TRADE_TICK_VALUE` as the value of `SYMBOL_TRADE_TICK_VALUE_PROFIT`; it describes tick size as the minimum price change and contract size as the trade contract size. The documented `OrderCalcProfit` formula for `SYMBOL_CALC_MODE_CFDLEVERAGE` is:

`(close_price - open_price) × Contract_Size × Lots`

With contract size 100 and volume 0.01, this formula gives USD 0.01 for a 0.01 price move and USD 1.00 for a 1.00 price move, matching both the Python and user-reported MQL5 `OrderCalcProfit` results. At one lot, the same formula implies USD 1.00 per 0.01 price tick. That is 10× the reported tick value of USD 0.10 per tick. The documented `CFDLEVERAGE` profit formula does not use the tick-value fields, so the profit calculation result and the tick-value metadata appear inconsistent.

## Questions

1. For XAUUSD with `SYMBOL_TRADE_CALC_MODE_CFDLEVERAGE`, contract size 100, and tick size 0.01, what does a reported `SYMBOL_TRADE_TICK_VALUE` of 0.1 USD represent? Is this value expected for this instrument and account group?
2. Why does the reported tick value equal 0.1 when the documented CFDLEVERAGE calculation corresponds to USD 1.00 per 0.01 price tick per lot?
3. Which value or documented method should a client use to calculate monetary profit/loss and risk for this symbol while the reported tick-value fields and `OrderCalcProfit` appear to disagree?
4. Are there XAUUSD contract-specification details, a unit convention, or a MetaQuotes-Demo account-group setting that explains this difference?
5. Could you please verify the server-side XAUUSD symbol configuration and the applicable MetaQuotes-Demo account-group configuration, including their effective dates? If a non-secret account-group identifier or other non-secret details are required, please specify them; no credentials should be needed.
6. Is this a known terminal/API presentation issue or server-side metadata issue, and is there a documented correction or recommended validation procedure?

Please clarify the intended tick-value units and the authoritative method for risk calculations, and indicate whether the reported values are correct for this symbol and account group. No conclusion about a broker or platform defect is assumed in this request.
