Strategy tester and metatrder 5  demo account produce different results during tests or execution.

May you help fix the metatrader 5 platform error.

I know that MetaQuotes Demo server is mostly used to update MT5 to beta build and to test beta builds for possible error on software in beta builds.
And the brokers should be used for any other cases (trading and testing). Because MetaQuotes is not a broker.

As I see here - the people are using MetaQuotes Demo server for trading and testing of the EA - which is very strange for me sorry.


Besides, the strategy tester and trading on trading accounts are often reproduce the different results, and it has nothing to do with MT5 platform.

Hi Bongumenz, it is not an error, the tester and a live chart are two diferent worlds and they will never give the same numbers. The things that change the result the most, from what I see every week with my own EAs:

Spread. In the tester you probably have a fixed spread or the last one the terminal saw. On the demo the spread moves all day and at rollover and news it opens a lot. Same entry, diferent fill.

Tick mode. If you tested with 1 minute OHLC or open prices only, the tester invents the ticks inside the candle. Run it again with Every tick based on real ticks and a real spread and you will see the result get closer to the account.

Slippage, swaps and commission. The tester fills you at the exact price, the demo does not, and if you hold overnight the swap changes the balance. Check that the symbol specs in the tester match the ones of the demo account.

And one more: the MetaQuotes-Demo server is having problems this week, there are several threads about it. Test on a demo of the broker you are going to use, with its real quotes, not on the MetaQuotes one. Then compare the same period, same symbol, same settings, and the diferences get small enough to live with.
