MT5 build 6235 on Linux/Wine: Code Base and Articles tabs stay empty, "MQL5 Base failed connect to server" (network confirmed working)

Environment

  • Ubuntu 24.04, X11 session, kernel 6.8.12
  • Wine 11.19 (WineHQ winehq-devel ), Windows 11 prefix (CurrentBuild 22000), prefix ~/.mt5
  • WebView2 Evergreen 154.0.4258.53
  • MetaTrader 5 x64 build 6235, installed with mt5linux.sh
  • Account: MetaQuotes-Demo, logged in to MQL5.community (activation succeeds on every launch)

Symptom
The Toolbox Code Base and Articles tabs stay empty (column headers only). The Journal shows repeated:
MQL5 Base failed connect to server
Later sessions sometimes log no error at all, but the tabs remain empty. MQL5.chats also logged send failed with 28671 error once.

What works

  • Trading connection, quotes, history and MQL5.community login.
  • Market tab: loads and installs products, after disabling WebView2 GPU composition through the policy HKLM/HKCU\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge\WebView2\AdditionalBrowserArguments → terminal64.exe = --disable-gpu --disable-gpu-compositing --disable-software-rasterizer .

What I ruled out

  1. Network: from Linux, TCP port 443 on 194.164.179.28, .33 and .195 is reachable, and curl https://www.mql5.com returns HTTP 200.
  2. Wine networking: a WINEDEBUG=+winsock trace shows MT5 connecting to 194.164.179.28:443 and .33:443, checking SO_ERROR , then sending and receiving data ( WS2_sendto , FIONREAD , WS2_recv_base ). The connections succeed, but MT5 keeps opening new ones to .28 (11 sockets in one session).
  3. TLS/schannel: a WINEDEBUG=+secur32 trace shows only provider initialization, with no handshakes and no errors, so MQL5 Base doesn't use Wine's TLS.
  4. DNS: MT5 connects by IP; the only name lookups are wpad .
  5. Local cache: no Code Base or Articles data files exist in the data folder.

Conclusion
The network exchange with the MQL5 Base server succeeds at the socket level, but the terminal still treats it as a failed connection and never fills the lists. The failure appears to be inside the terminal's handling of the server's response under Wine. Full traces are available on request.

Majed Yafa:
MQL5 Base failed connect to server
