i have MT5 with a broker account and a VPS through METATRADER,

do i need a separate METATRADER account if i want to open a second trade account with a different broker?, or, can i use the same account?

In MT5 you can store multiple broker accounts/logins in the same terminal - but at any given time only one account can be active.

NOTE: some MT5 terminals are broker‑specific builds. In those cases, it’s a good idea to install a separate MT5 terminal for each broker. That way, each installation is tied to its own server, avoids conflicts and makes switching accounts cleaner.

Correct - if you want to trade with two brokers at the same time, you’ll need two separate MT5 terminals running in parallel.

Each MT5 instance can only be logged into one active account at a time. You can store multiple logins, but only one is live per terminal session.

And since some MT5 builds are broker‑specific, it’s best practice to install each broker’s own MT5 separately. That way you can run both terminals side‑by‑side (for example, one on your VPS and one locally, or two terminals on the VPS), each connected to its own broker account.
