If an EA Is Truly Profitable, Why Sell It? - page 4

Lei Zhai:

If EA can continue to make money, why would it need to be sold on the MT5 market?

Wouldn't creators make more money by quietly trading with their own funds instead of selling copies for a few hundred dollars?

As a potential buyer, this has always been my biggest concern. Is there a reasonable explanation, or should traders generally be skeptical of publicly selling EAs?

I would love to hear the real opinions of developers and traders.

Hi. This is a very common question, and as a seller and developer, we can share our perspective.

The assumption that a profitable EA should never be sold because its developer could simply trade it privately sounds logical at first, but in reality these are two completely different business models.

Trading your own capital generates income from capital. Developing and selling software generates income from intellectual property. There is no reason why a developer cannot do both.

If we develop a profitable trading system, we can use it on our own accounts while simultaneously licensing the software to other traders. Selling licenses does not prevent us from trading the same strategy ourselves. It simply creates an additional and diversified source of revenue.

There is also the question of capital and risk. If a developer wants to generate $100,000 from trading, significant capital must normally be exposed to the market. Selling software can generate additional revenue without continuously increasing trading exposure. From a business perspective, it makes perfect sense to combine both.

Another important point is that developing professional trading software is not free. There are programmers, servers, data services, APIs, testing infrastructure, customer support, development time, updates, marketing and many other expenses. Commercializing the technology helps finance its continued development.

We have been programming trading systems for 17 years and have sold thousands of trading tools. For us, creating trading software is a business in itself. We don't see any contradiction between using our own technology and selling licenses to customers.

And there is another important reality: no profitable strategy remains identical forever. Markets change. A serious developer continues analyzing, updating and adapting the system. This is one of the reasons why professional EA development is an ongoing business rather than simply writing an algorithm once and leaving it running forever.

Selling a profitable EA and trading it yourself are not mutually exclusive. For a professional software company, doing both can actually be the most logical business model.

That's good for you as a professional web marketer.

This is where I must respectfully disagree. There is no reason that an EA that is accurately, properly, and profitably tested over the course of a sufficient timespan cannot be profitable throughout a trader's remaining lifetime. Based on my 27 years of trading experience, there is a point where most everything posted for public use begins to become redundant in terms of performance. Constantly adapting/optimizing a system is a sure sign of a system that was not accurately, properly, and/or profitably tested over the course of a sufficient timespan.

As a side note, creating such a strategy/EA is certainly not easy and I have never seen such an EA in the Market. Obviously, I won't be posting/selling mine.

Robert Kiyosaki, the author of the bestselling book “Rich Dad Poor Dad” says that rich people think about many kinds of income.

A good trading method automated won't make anyone rich quickly. Trading accounts increase over time. As developer and seller you can create an additional source of income. It's simple as that. Buyers should pay attention to those who sell smooth equity curves, one asset specialized trading robot, constant profits, 10x,100x account increase in one or two years.

Your concerns are valid, but the principle isn't about selling profitable expert advisors simply because they generate profit. Firstly, this is a field of work and a source of income for developers and engineers, helping individuals who lack the ability to automate their strategies or the time to trade. This provides a livelihood for developers. Furthermore, who among us doesn't have their own expert advisors? Most people do. Who would refuse to consult a top-tier expert? I deliberately avoided using the word "profitable" because it's not just about consistent profitability. There are good days and bad days, and circumstances change.

even if it is a money printing machine its your EA nobody has access to the code behind it only permission to use the advertisers EA
Which Ea are you using bruh?

The question is very nice. I am also using EA  to trade on my accounts and if I can make money from my investment, I will still continue to invest more. We wear cloth not because factories can't wear it all but to also serve the value that we need. EA reduces tension . If you re only struggling to get good ones. I could suggest you.

[T]he built-in strategy tester report only groups profits/losses by when the trades were closed - not when they were opened. For EAs with hold times spanning at least an hour, this complicates the kind of usage of this data that you propose (and many of us use).

Lei Zhai i don't really understand the question.

These Tools, Expert Advisors and Indicators are usually sold to possibly assist you in your trading and to help you to develop your own combinations of what works for you.

If you have spend the last 20 years of your life building a masterpiece by cutting away what doesn't work and by combining what works, then why should this just be sitting on some obviously very persistent developers harddisk ?

Of course you want to share it with others.

The better question could be about the invasion of all of these AI 'vibe-coded' applications that we see literally everywhere.

They usually take minutes if not seconds to cook them up.

But when i look at that code i want to run and hide, so you can actually talk to the developer on here, i mean a real developer not some hallucinating large language model.

And you can actually ask them about the stuff they are selling on here.

So if you want to know more you can just open up a chat window and ask a question so that you know what's it about and how does it work and things to watch out for and all sorts of things you would like to know.

Are you really considering just buying something blindly?

If the primary purpose were assistance, the software would be in the CodeBase or freely in a Blog or Article.

Web marketing is what it is, and the primary purpose it to turn a buck.
