michael myers: This made me wonder does MT5 actually store optimization data ? And does it also keep backtest data even when it’s no longer visible in the platform?
Short answer — yes!
Long answer — it's complicated!
@fxsaber has some CodeBase publications (and I think also some blog posts) that make use of these stored data files. I don't know the specifics, so research his publications and blog posts too.

Hello everyone,
I’m reaching out today because I have some questions about MT5’s data storage system.
I do optimization backtests on local farm (slow, fast genetic, etc), and I noticed something : when I stop an optimization and restart it later without changing any settings, the previously calculated optimization results reappear in the “Optimization Results” tab.
This made me wonder does MT5 actually store optimization data ? And does it also keep backtest data even when it’s no longer visible in the platform?
My goal is to be able to shut down my PCs when necessary, then turn them back on and resume the optimization exactly where I left off.
Thanks a lot in advance for your time
MM
