Will the prices of making programs go down rise or stay the same assuming the development of Artificial Intelligence? - page 3

Vladislav Boyko #:

At the moment, you cannot save the programmer’s time by generating some part of the code for him yourself. This will only increase development time and communication time, and will not save it. AI generates nonsense that will take up the programmer's time, not save it.

Depends on who you are.

if i have an automatic robot dishwasher at my restaurant, then I dont need 2 people anymore.  I just need 1 person to make sure it runs right.  This happens all day everyday all over the world

If that dishwasher had been generated by AI, it would have been a hybrid of a car pressure washer and a hot tub; and it would have used dog shampoo to wash the dishes.

So what?  It washes dishes for cheaper.  These scenarios play out since the advent of money.

So what?

You will need 3 times more space for such a dishwasher. Utility costs will be too high because you don’t need water at 100 atmospheres of pressure to wash dishes. Your restaurant will be closed because guests get poisoned by dog shampoo and end up in the hospital. And you will end up in court because of it.

why would you use dog shampoo.  you can get cheap dish soap.  I have experienced this scenario in real life. This is over 10 years ago, and the restaurant is still in business because they reduced the labor and have a robot dishwasher.

All the AI believers, watch it play out in the future. Let's say next 6 months.

If there is any "advancements" for coders, its for automated documentation. - But dont let your code get stolen by AI in the process.

Also, if you use an AI to generate your code, how do you think this has happend in the first place?

Let's say, all code will now be generated by AI, who will contribute new code for the AI to learn new stuff?

Can you see the problem? Anyways, if you believe in AI being the or a solution, you haven't understood AI in the first place.

For a more detailed explanation why AI and LLMs will not have any impact on coding, please see this video as a starting point.

All relevant links are in the video description.

TLDR: Language is fuzzy, that's why the results of current LLMs is great, but coding is precise, and that's why LLMs fail.

I dont think it will have an impact on coding. the question will it make it cheaper on prices.  It has already done this

Short term, maybe. Long term, not so much. I would say it will increase price in the long run.

Currently anyone who can chat with GPT gets the "opportunity" to pose as a coder, but for long term projects, employment, it will get harder to find qualified coders, increasing prices.

EDIT: or in short: You get what you pay for.

Maybe, now with the advent of NPU, anyone with any skill can produce better code
