So when you test an expert advisor on historical data and it gives good results does that mean it is automatically profitable in real time trading

You can optimize an ea and choose the best result at end. 
Create a demo account in your broker, and leave the ea auto trading.

Agree 100%. There is much more to do than just a simple backtest.

And I'm not even talking about all the technical stuff like wrong spread, bugs, bad data.... That's the first thing you need to get right. After that, you will most likely fall into the trap of over-optimization.

So no, a good backtest means nothing. Creating a good looking backtest is easy, anyone can do it. Creating a good strategy is much harder.

The consequence is that most strategies sold on the internet are just not working. If you think in terms of weekly periods then you are probably scalping or do you have strategies that make over 100 trades per week
