How much do you need to live on? - page 6

George Merts:
Why should that be? Just when money is scarce, significant growth is very much a source of joy. There was an article somewhere, where psychologists studied the level after which the amount of money no longer matters. The amount was, if I recall correctly, $70K per family per year. And while there is no such level, an increase in income always increases the feeling of living comfort.

Only those who do not exceed expenses over income feel comfortable; for the rest of us, it is only a joy.)

Yeah, I'll take a walk and tell you how I pulled a man out of the Wahhabi captivity

Alexey Volchanskiy:
Yeah, I'll tell you about the time I pulled a man out of Wahhabi captivity.

Everyone on this forum is a prisoner. They even take you for a walk%)))

Alexey Volchanskiy:

So, tell us about this risk model, the forum is made for the purpose of reducing the level of stupidity in the organisms))

I won't tell you about mine, but in general RM works with the following factors (some of which it looks for from the rest - which is obvious)

  1. Deposit;
  2. Lot;
  3. Permissible drawdown (during the day);
  4. Allowable drawdown (during N days);
  5. Target Profit (during the day);
  6. Target Profit (for a period of N days);
  7. Instrument volatility;
  8. Seasonality of the instrument (normalized to some numeric values);
  9. News background (normalized to some numeric values).

There's a terrific story on this subjectcalled "Friedman's Space". The whole point is the denouement, I was far from getting it right away.

Well, if I had an income 10 times higher than the average salary in my city, I would think to myself: so... people buy phones for 100 dollars, so I will have a phone 10 times more expensive, people rent flats for 200 dollars, so I will rent a flat for 2000, people wear Chinese clothes from the market, so I will wear brand-name clothes that cost 10 times more expensive. people eat at cafes, I will go only to high-end restaurants. people vacation at the black sea, I will use trips that are 10 times more expensive, I will go to Spain. people buy cars for 15 000 dollars, I will buy for 150 000.

In the mid-90s I was the manager of a flat rental agency, in fact I was in charge of all the money. I earned many times more in that money than I do now. But money did not bring me happiness, I had no attachment to it. The only good thing was that I didn't have to think about how I was going to get by on my paycheck.

Similarly, I have never attached much importance to money, always looking for a job which was interesting rather than money. We, who grew up under socialism, were not used to wasting money. It seems that I do not deny myself anything, but the demands of the socialist era, so there is money, it is not spent completely and accumulates in deposits. But never mind, at least something will be left for the children.

Well, deposits aren't profitable, I have 8.5% per annum in the bank, a pittance.

A rather rich person once wrote that you people overestimate the importance of a lot of money for happiness. Not one person has ever said something like "When my income went from $2,000 to $10,000 I was much happier". Not one.

Of course, it is difficult to be happy and peaceful, when your income does not allow to provide for basic needs (for example, less than $200), and in such a case, you really should make every effort to live decently, on average I think it is about 1500 - 3000 dollars. You will have everything to feel happy, and the amount higher than that will not affect your happiness.

A million dollars in your account means nothing in this modern world.
