I often draw something like this too, but I don't know the rules. I personally noticed that a trend that is directed in a channel at a certain angle is often suddenly interrupted by a jump, often against the trend, continues along a parallel channel, respectively, at the same angle, and often then jumps back into the same channel! For example, I have hundreds of case drawings in my folder.
