the idea is good, but it will not work in real terminals and quotes, for a day i am spinning my vision of the same ring but through gold in the form of 8 currencies i.e. USDGOLD,NZDGOLD .... and I am becoming more and more convinced that the quotes are smeared/shifted/ .... over time, as the topstarter's ring should be in zero balance-size-spread - since logically, if which currency has become stronger/more expensive, it means the other currency has become weaker.
I agree with statements that each currency is weighted differently in relation to the other (CAD is weaker than USD) and the like, but we have cross rates of all quotations to make them converge, I agree with those who say that the entire ring moves in terms of overall increase/decrease in the value of the basket, but I still stick to my opinion about irrelevance of quotes
I agree. The idea is a good one and I have tried looping currency pairs. But it doesn't work, even at a glance. Everything leads to a ratio of quotes between pairs indicating a shift in banks working hours. Therefore, guessing about some portfolio based on the simple principle of listing currency pairs is not worthwhile.
In my vision, a ring is only possible in relation to a trend. I.e. if one currency is falling in a long trend (week, month), then you need to find a currency in counterbalance, i.e. a rising one. How many of these pairs are found at the moment, that is how many will be in the portfolio. At the same time, the order and the number will vary. But having built a strategy and TS, on this idea, you can hardly earn good money, though it may be profitable.
As time passed, the Ring did not "let go" of the topicstarter's inquisitive mind (i.e. mine) for all those ten and a half years.
Many things have changed during this time: the discussion participants, who were disappointed in finding their own grail, have left, the forum has changed, the trading platform has changed, and even society itself has put on masks and lost its mind.
Only the price movements of currency pairs of the market-neutral portfolio have not changed - no matter what happens, the prices will move away from the "starting points" and the number of lost points will exceed the number of gained points by 21 spreads. Always.
