In other words,
if we are saying
x = 2+1
So x = 3
because 2+1 =3
so 2+1 = x
but that is not the case with above
as resulttotal interpretation by the system has been changed depending on the location of resulttotal either on the right side or the left side of the equal sign

I don't know why you are over-thinking something so basic and simple.
Most calculations and comparisons are done exactly how you would do it yourself.
If you are wanting to calculate the value of x, you would never write down
2+1=x
(Unless you are Yoda, who might say "2+1 equals x, it does")
You would always write
x=2+1
In the case of
a=2
a=a+1
You would not get confused about the value of a either side of the = sign, would you?
This topic is just a waste of time and I won't comment in it any more.
