Yeah, you are right. We will say it's a bug.

Surprisingly, the mql4.com site does not contain any MT4 installation either, but instead a big MT5 advertisement and download. Does all that mean that MT4 officially and silently turned obsolete?

Article published 15 Nov 2016:

Russian fintech company MetaQuotes no longer intends to issue upgrades to the MetaTrader 4 (MT4) as it is focusing entirely on its successor MetaTrader 5 (MT5), investment news provider Finance Magnates reported on Tuesday, citing Anthony Papaevagorou, head of sales at MetaQuotes, as saying at the Finance Magnates London Summit.

“We do not expect to see any developments to come out of MT4 ever again. Given this, MT4 is slowly dying out,” Papaevagorou said as quoted by the media. “MT5 was previously struggling to keep up with MT4 and our other offerings, our problem is that we are victims of our own success,” he added.

It looks like and i'm wondering how they convince the brokers to migrate their platforms from MT4 to MT5?

Besides that about 99% of the sold products at the MQL5 market are MT4 products which will get obsolete and useless as well.

It depends on us, the clients. The brokers pay the bill and they need us to do it. So Metaquotes wants (tries to force) us to migrate as the number of mt5-clients (like no. of dlds?) is their argument to sell their mt5-server in stead of the mt4-server.

So its neither a bug nor a gag - it is simply marketing.

What moves brokers ? ;-)

If customers start to use MT5, sellers will have to follow. It's just supply and demand.

However I tried to advice for months everyone that will happen (Metaquotes pushing MT5). Nobody can say it's a surprise. If they will succeed is an other matter.

So what do you think is the best approach at this time ?

I also have my doubts about the switch but it seems to be inevitable.

Check your existing mql4 code and change it to be compatible with mql5.
