I've been trading since 2021, with Expert Advisors since 2024, and today I run an EA portfolio across several accounts and brokers. As an engineer with a PhD, I'm used to building processes that leave little room for error.
Trading taught me something the hard way: EAs are often sold on polished backtests and "verified" badges. It cost me roughly $30,000 (my own estimate, courses, prop challenges and bots included) to learn which promises hold up and which don't.
Since then my focus is on EA integrity:
- comparing backtests, vendor signals and live results,
- learning to spot hidden martingale or grid behaviour before it shows up in the account.
Happy to discuss building an EA portfolio, risk and position sizing, and why a strategy often behaves differently live than in the tester.
Chris, founder of ArcanGuard.

EA Desk MT5 is now available in the Market, free.
It is a read-only panel that shows your account results and one row per Magic Number, so you can see which Expert Advisor is active and which has been quiet. It does not trade and sends no data.
The design is calm and shows only what you need: seven rings, the account line and one table.

Manual: https://www.mql5.com/en/blogs/post/778831
Questions and suggestions are welcome in the product comments.

Shows account results and a table per Magic Number on its own chart, so you can see which Expert Advisor is active and which has been quiet. EA Desk does not trade. EA Desk is a read-only panel that shows your account results per Expert Advisor in one calm view. What EA Desk does Many traders run several Expert Advisors on one account. The terminal shows one shared list of deals. To see what each Expert Advisor has done, you have to filter and calculate by hand. It is easy to miss an Expert

Balance line looks perfect for years... then you switch on equity and see what the grid was hiding 😅 Do you check equity in every backtest before you buy?

Good morning,
can an EA really achieve a Profit Factor of 50? And are there really traders who buy something like that?
Crazy world...

When you take a close look at product signals, you suddenly realize how many of them just disappear!

A stop loss is a plan, not a guarantee.
I learned that on a prop challenge. My EAs ran through both phases for about 1.5 years, then one forex pair opened with a gap far past the stops. The day ended above the daily limit. A grid EA on the same account was already in floating loss, so the gap didnt need much.
The lesson for me: the number that matters on Friday is not what each single stop says. It's how much all open positions together lose in money if price jumps over the weekend.
How do you handle open positions over the weekend? Close everything, cut size, or just let the EAs run?

I’d close Forex pairs over the weekend. With the risk of price gaps and crazy spreads when the market reopens on Sunday night at the start of the Asian session. Holding over the weekend is more like gambling than trading, unless you’re a position trader holding trades over the longer term.
