I am the founder of Moreland Algorithmic, a UK-based trading technology company focused on the research, development and deployment of proprietary automated trading systems.
My primary interest lies in systematic trading: taking a trading concept, defining it objectively, testing it across large amounts of historical market data, and refining it into a rules-based system that can operate without discretionary intervention. I am particularly interested in the relationship between strategy logic, position sizing, drawdown, execution costs and long-term risk-adjusted performance.
Moreland Algorithmic was created around the belief that automated trading software should be approached as a serious research and engineering discipline rather than simply as a collection of indicators or short-term backtest results. Every system we develop is built around clearly defined market logic, predetermined risk controls and repeatable execution.
A significant part of my work involves historical testing, out-of-sample validation and forward testing. I place considerable emphasis on understanding not only how much a strategy has made historically, but also how it made those returns. Metrics such as drawdown, profit factor, expectancy, Sharpe ratio, Sortino ratio, Calmar ratio, volatility, trade duration, execution costs and month-by-month consistency are all important parts of that assessment.
I am also particularly interested in risk scaling. A strategy can behave very differently when risk is increased, and I believe it is important to test different risk configurations independently rather than simply assuming that returns and drawdowns will scale linearly. This forms an important part of the research methodology behind Moreland Algorithmic systems.
Our current work includes Moreland System 1, a proprietary XAUUSD support-reversal system, and Moreland System 2, an adaptive momentum-based automated trading system. Both systems are designed around systematic execution and clearly defined risk parameters, while the underlying strategy logic remains proprietary.
Moreland Algorithmic develops software for both MetaTrader 5 and cTrader, with the objective of providing professionally engineered automated trading systems across widely used trading environments.
My approach is deliberately research-led. I am far more interested in understanding how a system behaves across different market conditions than presenting a single impressive equity curve. Strong historical returns are useful, but they mean considerably more when they are accompanied by transparent methodology, sensible risk controls, realistic transaction costs and subsequent validation on previously unseen market data.
I also believe that automated trading systems should give the user control over risk, rather than exposing unnecessary internal strategy parameters. The underlying trading logic should remain consistent, while the user is able to determine the level of account risk appropriate for their own circumstances.
Through the MQL5 community, I intend to share updates on our development work, research findings, testing methodology and the continued development of Moreland Algorithmic systems.
My aim is to build Moreland Algorithmic into a recognised trading technology brand based on research, disciplined execution, defined risk and measurable performance, rather than exaggerated claims or short-term results.
