Andrei Lukoianov:
- 2–3 consecutive losses
- 4–5 consecutive losses
- 6 or more consecutive losses
- The number does not matter. I stop when my drawdown limit is reached
- I keep trading as long as the signals meet my system’s rules
- I have no fixed rule. I decide based on the situation
Hi Andrei,
none of the options really fits for me, because the number depends on the EA. A trend EA with 35 % win rate can lose 10 in a row and still be normal. For a scalper with 80 % win rate, 6 in a row is already unusual.
So i'd look at the longest losing streak in the EA's backtest and pause when the live streak goes past it. If the backtest is short, a rough estimate from the win rate and the number of trades helps.
I'd also watch the size of the losses. An EA that starts losing bigger instead of more often won't show up in a streak count at all.
Best regards
Chris
@Andrei Lukoianov, I voted for 2 to 3 and 4 to 5. At my own risk of being Captain Obvious, the native Tester stats summary in MT5 shows the average count of consecutive losses and the maximum count of consecutive losses. I simply use the average + 1 to deactivate trading. Trading reactivates upon the overall machine state of my technical trading conditions. I formerly used the minimum contract/lot size as a "crash test dummy" and kept on trading after average + 1, but I recently switched over to the machine state check to save a few bucks by deactivating trading instead. Anyway, my EA's generally have 2 to 3 average consecutive losses so that makes my average + 1 = 3 or 4. The maximum stat gives a pretty good estimate of the worst case that is avoided by doing so.
40 or 50 may be.
Its simple math my friend , 1% risk on each trade. you have 100 trades to loose. i usually use 1 or 2 % only.

Yes and that's what is scary , A person makes and sells EA's and states they would stop after 50 losses in a row . The green Seller badge merely signifies a registered web marketer─not any level of trading experience nor specific risk tolerance.
I think I hear a clock ticking or maybe it's a bomb !! .
