EURUSD M1 history gap: July 2025 to October 2026 after History Center download

Hello,

I need help retrieving missing EURUSD M1 history for an MT4 Strategy Tester backtest.

My setup:

  • Broker: OANDA U.S.

  • Platform: MT4 running in Windows 11 through Parallels on a Mac.

  • Required history: September 1–October 23, 2026, including September for indicator initialization.

In my October 24 export, the recent M1 history contained only 5,135 records, from October 20, 2026 at 10:07 through October 23 at 23:59.

I then used Tools → History Center → EURUSD → M1 → Download and accepted the MetaQuotes data-source notice. The resulting export contains over 9.6 million records, but it jumps directly from July 26, 2025 at 00:51 to October 20, 2026 at 10:07. September and early October 2026 are still missing.

Steps already tried:

  • Checked the bar limits: 512,000 in history and 65,000 on the chart.

  • Confirmed the terminal is connected.

  • Refreshed the EURUSD M1 chart.

  • Used date navigation to request September 30, 2026.

The chart still shows the gap. OANDA support directed me here after I explained that the History Center download had not resolved it.

How can I determine whether this is a local history/synchronization issue, a limitation of the broker’s available history, or a gap in the MetaQuotes download? Is there a supported way to retrieve the missing period without mixing incompatible data sources?

I can provide my current MT4 build, broker server name, and relevant Journal messages if needed.

Thank you.

Hi Brad, from what you describe it is not your setup. In your case the MetaQuotes download ends in July 2025, and the broker server only sends a short window of M1 when you scroll back. Between both there is a hole that nobody fills.

Quick way to confirm: close MT4, File, Open Data Folder, history, the OANDA server folder, and rename EURUSD1.hst. Open MT4 again, open EURUSD M1 and press Home several times. Where it stops loading is the limit of the broker. If it stops around Oct 20 the server just dont keep more M1.

For the test without mixing sources: if your EA works on bar close, run it on M5 or M15 with Open prices only, the broker keeps a lot more history on higher timeframes. If you really need M1 for that exact period, ask OANDA if they can give you a data export.
