Discussing the article: "Building a Trade Replay Tool in MQL5"

Check out the new article: Building a Trade Replay Tool in MQL5.

This article presents a Trade Replay Tool for MetaTrader 5 implemented as an MQL5 indicator. It replays historical candles within an anchor-defined range and automatically reconstructs historical trades as paper positions with entry, SL, and TP. Users control start/end anchors and playback speed via UI buttons and hotkeys, enabling focused study of price evolution and trade lifecycle in a precise, event-driven environment.

In the previous article, Building a Bar Replay Tool in MQL5, we took the first step toward creating a chart replay experience by developing a replay mechanism that reveals historical candles one bar at a time. The tool also introduced Buy and Sell controls, allowing users to manually open a single paper trade while progressing through historical price action. Although this provides a useful foundation for studying market behavior, the implementation has two important limitations:

In this article, we will extend the concepts introduced in the bar replay tool to build a Trade Replay Tool capable of automatically reconstructing historical trades within a user-defined time range. The tool will retrieve the relevant historical trade events and recreate them as paper trades at their original execution times, preserving key trade properties such as the entry price, volume, Stop Loss (SL), and Take Profit (TP). As the replay progresses and reaches the corresponding historical exit event, the simulated position will be closed automatically.
