What auditing 10 best-selling scalping/martingale EAs on the MQL5 Market taught me - page 3

Yes. And in general, if an EA shows very few trades with a high profit factor in the backtest, that usually suggests the EA has been heavily optimized and only trades when the market conditions closely match the settings it was optimized for.

When an EA is able to open trades under a wide range of market conditions, meaning it trades almost every day, and still remains profitable, that is a much more interesting sign to me. It suggests that the EA is adapting to the market rather than waiting for the market to match its predefined settings.

Thanks Ghenadie,

that makes sense. Few trades with a high profit factor is exactly the pattern that looks great after optimizing and then waits forever for the "right" market.

The one thing I'd watch on the other side: a lot of trades per day also means costs matter a lot more. I saw a backtest recently with around 14,000 trades a year and a profit factor of 1.03, thats basically spread and slippage away from zero.
And grids or martingales trade almost every day too.

So for me trades per day only counts together with enough edge per trade left after costs. But i guess thats already in your formula.

Best regards,
Chris :)

There is only one thing that matters, does the EA/strategy have any edge or not.

If not, you can throw whatever you like at it and it will sooner or later crash or don't earn any money.

999 of a thousand EAs here don't have any edge, they are just curve fitted on historical prices or have as low as possible risk settings to survive.

On a side note.

Its funny to see all these threads being made where the thread starter have an agenda to either sell something here on mql5 or being associated with some 3rd party program/internet site.

Even more funny is that 9 out of 10 who answer these threads have the same agenda... 🤣

Even worse. Most is AI. Take the first post. The author is a self proclaimed quant but according to his post is incapable of destinguishing the use of martingale/grid from a trading history. Everything is without context. It is all BS.

Hello.

I was also very interested in the Martingale strategy and tested it for several months. However, because it relies on increasing position sizes, it carries extremely high risk. My account was wiped out when the market began trending strongly in one direction.

I try not to make any personal accusations, maybe he has some good explanation to why he cant distinguish the use of martingale/grid.

But its still funny though...
