Having friends on MQL5: The positives

How have you benefited from having friends on mql5? I find it weird that people ask to be friends but after you become friends, you never discuss anything trading or EA related, never share ideas, never encourage or seek encouragement. I find people on this forum to be 1000x more important than friends on your MQL5 profile.

If you post valuable utilities in the CodeBase and help traders meaningfully in the Forum, that is simply the way that it goes─traders instantly Friend up. I can't even tell you how many traders that I have helped and brainstormed with via Messages. "New-to-me" utilities are brought to my attention by other traders as well. And then there's joint coding, testing, etc. I'm not on any permanent "team," but that's the beauty of it. Anyone can Friend anyone else.

That's exactly why I barely add anyone on MQL5 even though I get tons of friend requests. I think I only have around 200 people added,. And most of them are developers from the marketplace so I can monitor their products, updates, and how they react when market conditions change.

Other than that, the whole "friends" system on MQL5 is pretty pointless.

Plus once you reach a certain level of experience, you stop looking for validation or random conversations from people there anyway. Most users disappear the moment you try discussing real trading, risk management, optimization, or EA logic.

MQL5 isn't really a social platform. It's a business ecosystem. People are there to sell, buy, test, promote, or protect their edge. That's why forum discussions are usually far more valuable than having a giant friends list full of silent accounts.

I'm sorry to hear that you feel that way. Perhaps that is a result of you having joined up in 2025. This place is definitely different from the heyday of mql4.com when there was no e-commerce.

I still have the "old" mindset. I don't use social media and to me, the mql5.com Forum is merely a forum with Friending supported. For the most part, I get out what I put into it.

Absolutely. You could chat on the forum while sipping a coffee - waiting for a trade to close. It was friendly; now, we just get banned

I would really like to make friends in this platform and exchange ideas

I removed all my friends, I'll start afresh later but now I have to figure out how to get the best out of it.

This mindset is good, it's just that a lot has changed as you've said.

Often, things like these go from bad to worse.
