Lessons from Losses

Post your biggest loss. What did you learn from it?

We all have these stories - human ego is the weakest link in any trading system.

It's not about $$ amount (any amount is painful), but in the attitude and logic change that followed.

Personally, I’ve banned myself from any manual entry. After totaling an investor's account back in 2010.

Losses are valuable lessons that we, as traders, pay for the success we desire, but when exactly?

Our answer to the question determines the type of trading strategy we adopt. I agree with you that we all feel pain when our balance dries up; we've all been there. But I can't even begin to describe the achievements that can result from the pain of loss when it transforms into a sound idea and a valuable lesson that leads to projects we wouldn't have been able to reach otherwise. I enjoyed our discussion.

Amen to that. In the process of learning, the value of temporarily walking away frustrated can't be overstated. It takes a while to Ctrl-Alt-Del the human brain.
