I want to put XAUUSD onto my mt5 testing platform, but it refuses to do it. Can anyone help ?

If you're in a live account, make sure that your broker-dealer provides that product.

There is nothing in the journal tab.
 
Based on your explanation, I think the simplest option for you is to uninstall MetaTrader and then download and install the latest version again from your broker’s website.

  1. In MT5, go to Tools==>Options==>Charts tab.
  2. Set "Max bars in chart" to "Unlimited."
  3. Click "OK."
  4. Restart MT5.
  5. Right click on XAUUSD in the Market Watch window.
  6. Click on "Symbols."
  7. Click on the Ticks tab.
  8. Request All ticks going back to 1970.
  9. Wait for download to complete.
  10. Request M1 bars going back to 1970.
  11. Wait for download to complete.
  12. Click "OK."
  13. Restart MT5.
If this solves your issue, you may need to reduce "Max bars in chart" per your pc spec's prior to actually trading.
