Hello everyone,
I am currently exploring the development of a mobile application for retail traders. It is still at an early stage of research and feasibility study, not yet a formal startup.
During my research, I came across information suggesting that, in addition to the MT4/MT5 desktop and mobile platforms, there are also Web APIs for MetaTrader 5. However, it is not yet clear to me to what extent these APIs are available to third-party developers and what the specific access requirements are.
I would like to ask the community (and hopefully MetaQuotes representatives as well) a few questions:
-
Is the use of the MT5 Web APIs by independent developers allowed? If so, does it require a specific license or revenue sharing?
-
Are there any limitations for using these APIs in consumer applications distributed via App Store / Google Play?
-
Are there any official guidelines or best practices for ensuring proper technical and legal compliance when using the APIs as a non-broker developer?
-
To begin initial testing, is it sufficient to use a demo account with a partner broker, or is there a specific activation procedure required directly through MetaQuotes?
My goal is simply to better understand the scope and requirements for using the MT5 Web APIs, and to evaluate whether they could be a suitable foundation for future development.
Thank you in advance to anyone who can share insights or official guidance.
This forum is mainly a place for traders and developers to exchange ideas, discuss MetaTrader features, coding practices and share trading-related insights.
Topics like licensing, API availability for non-brokers and distribution rules are not usually addressed here, since they go beyond user experience and platform usage.
If you’re experimenting, the practical part you can do within the forum scope is testing with demo accounts through any broker that offers MT5 access - that’s how most developers prototype. For anything beyond that (e.g. distribution rights, app-store compliance or API policies), the answers won’t be found here.
