Hello MQL5 Community,
I am currently working on automating and troubleshooting MT5 forward testing and require the default tester.mqh file that comes with MetaTrader 5. Unfortunately, I seem to have misplaced or overwritten the original file, and I am unable to locate it in my installation.
I have already tried the following:
- Reinstalling MetaTrader 5 to restore the file.
- Searching the MQL5 CodeBase, Documentation, and Forum for a downloadable version.
- Reviewing custom versions of tester.mqh , but I specifically need the default version provided by MetaQuotes.
If anyone has access to the default tester.mqh file or knows how I can obtain it, I would greatly appreciate your assistance. Alternatively, if there is an official way to request this file from MetaQuotes, please let me know.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Best regards,
there is no tester.mqh on clean mt5 installation.
Since Tester.mqh is referenced in many Strategy Tester automation scripts — and doesn’t seem to be available anymore via default installs — do you or anyone here have a copy of the original Tester.mqh file from an older working install?
If there’s an official GitHub, archive, or CodeBase resource where MetaQuotes stores these internal includes (like Tester.mqh ), I’d be very grateful if someone could point me there.
Thanks again for your time and support!
Best regards,
How do I obtain the tester.mqh file then ? Because I can’t seem to run my script without it

I found this file here https://www.mql5.com/ru/code/24848

Hi Sergey, thank you very much for your help and the link — I really appreciate you taking the time to assist.
Unfortunately, the file you shared appears to be a custom implementation of Tester.mqh , created by a third-party developer (fxsaber), and not the default built-in version that used to ship inside the standard MetaTrader 5 Include\Trade\ folder.
For my current batch automation workflow, I specifically need the official Tester.mqh provided by MetaQuotes — the one that includes functions like TesterSetExpert() , TesterSetModel() , TesterStart() , etc., used by the built-in Strategy Tester engine.
Would you (or anyone reading) happen to have a copy of the original Tester.mqh file from an older install — or know of an official GitHub archive or internal MetaQuotes resource where it can still be found?
Thanks again for your time and support.
Best regards,
Jake

Hi Mr. Jakey,
I had a similar expirience. I downloaded MT5 from one broker and lost a default file so I simply downloaded from another broker and restore the file to the my original MT5 after installation.
