Although new to MT and MT4 in particular, I have experience with Omega products.

I am trying to gain an understanding about visual signals and their relationship to the decision (coming from the from the formula) to make a trade and finally automatically carry out that trade.

I have been told that one can do this all in an EA and others have said that the proper way to do it is by creating an EA and a separate indicator. To do it all as an EA will cause a significant slowdown of the system.

If separate how do you do a qualitative review of the optimization results, as there are no signals?

Is there any concepts that are complete as examples? One that will be optimizable, show quantitative reports, show visual signals and generate automatic trading. If so that might "show" how things are to be assembled within MT4.

Generic questions like this are hard to answer. e.g. Visual signals are just that, something for you to see and have nothing to do with automatic trading. They are available for your viewing pleasure. But that's not really what you are asking, is it.... The best way to think of indicators is they operate on all the bars, whereas experts usually only operate on the current bar and or current data generated from indicators. How you'd write and tie together your expert, indicators and trading signals would depend upon their nature.

Think of MT4 it as a programming languge from which you can write indicators and trading experts.
