Is it better to exit with a take profit or a trailing stop?

Welcome to discuss:

1. Which is more important, entry or exit?

2. What is the best entry method?

3. How to choose the direction of the big probability?

4. Is it better to exit with a take profit or a trailing stop?

It all depends on ones' experience.

In my experience:

1. entry and exit has the same nature. If one is important the other is important too.

For me entry is whenever there is momentum and exit is whenever there is no momentum.

Therefore fixed SL and TP is nonsense to me.

2. Detecting trend direction is the million dollar question!

3. I do not believe in stop trailing as everyone knows it.  I trail my stop using momentum.

Too many questions in one thread. ;)
1. Both need to be aligned to each other. Usually people set low tp distance in order to increase the success probability. You can however use high tp with trend strategies.

2. Check YouTube video for "best..." in trading. There are solo many.

3. You don't choose. You work it out. For months and years.

4. Use tp for simplizfirst. Trailing again works only for trend following where tp is large.

Totally agree! Designing SL and TP with patterns can be a game changer to a not so great entry strategy

I used to think that exits were more important than entries, but ill-timed entries led to stop losses, and multiple stop losses accumulated to offset gains

1. Exit

2. Pullback entry which is a trend follower

3. by analyzing elliot waves in H4 or above timeframe

4. Trailing stop but it depends on nature of market, e.g. in crypto you cant use trailing stop otherwise you will be hunted immediately. while some other charts follow proper wave structure so its subject of scrip selection
