Anyone who takes pictures with a DSLR will understand.
Those who don't take pictures: it's not an easy task to catch such a moment and simultaneously choose the right aperture to "smudge" the background.
I suspect the shot is staged - the leaves have obviously fallen, i.e. they have been lifted from the ground. The focus is on the foreground.
The trees, on the other hand, combined with the grey sky, look a bit muddy.
Robert Jahns is a famous photographer from Germany who works in the Digital Art style (about Digital Art on Wikipedia here). He is considered as a master of photo manipulation (under the nickname Nois7).
Why I paid attention to it ... there was a photo published on Facebook with a frozen Venice canal, and angry comments like "It's not true!", "It's a fake"...
