Recently, however, investment companies have come up with many different "tricks" capable of attracting investors in times of market decline. For example, Mutual Fund "..." offers its shareholders to compile a fund portfolio by voting on its website. The seven participants who compile the best portfolio and most accurately predict market fluctuations are credited with a premium. As an experiment, NI earned about 4,000 roubles between July and August. However, there are a few unpleasant things to consider. Firstly, there are many shareholders, and in order to get into the top seven, you will need to keep an eye on the stock exchange. Secondly, the bonus is not paid in cash but in the form of additional units in the fund. At the same time, the units themselves decrease along with the declining stock market.
Indexed deposits at "......" look a bit more interesting. If the equity or oil market grows, your deposit will increase at the annual rate of about dozens of per cent. If it falls, in contrast to a mutual fund, the amount on deposit won't decrease, but will increase slightly, by 0.1-5% per year. The disadvantage of this instrument is that there are minimum investment terms (3, 6 or 12 months) and a minimum amount (100 thousand roubles).
Even more interesting is the "......" family of funds, which is designed for a falling market. "We open short positions in futures on relevant indices. This is not some kind of know-how, it is a common way of making money in a falling market, which we have made available to ordinary Russian investors. The minimum contribution to these funds is $100 ," Andrei explained to NI ....... The investor can "bet" on a fall in one of the following six markets - gold, oil, global real estate, US equities, Russia or emerging markets. Those who bet on the US and real estate were wrong - the yields of these funds since the beginning of the year were 6.9% and 0.5%, respectively. On the other hand, the rest of the funds rose 23.7-42.5%.
All in all, it's not all bad - professionals can generate income in a falling market and so can amateurs. If, of course, one knows the spots.
My prediction is that next week will start to rise ...
