Gday folks - any robot creating or general day trading enthusiasts that want to connect in the London or South East UK areas?
Bit of backstory
Last year I decided to execute my plan of closing my IT business (contracting in London/elsewhere) and divert into FX trading - and so far I would say I have learnt a hell of a lot more than what I have earned in £ - many pros, many cons about the activity.
Where I am now is that I enjoy robot development, prefer the mechanical strategies and focused money management frequent trading vs longer term - who knows, that could change though. One thing I do know is that I definitely cannot sit around all day watching charts, it does my head in, but I am impatient and not a swing trader so prefer the closure of a trades within the day. I find myself getting excited (not in that way) about coming up with a new idea, and developing a robot and back-testing it to then forward test it and watch for its potential. I come from a Tech development background so my bias is to automate where possible, taking myself out the equation, I guess that's why.
I initially thought I would try and start another unrelated business (eBay shop, inventions, website platforms etc) - I assessed the potential challenges and decided that for time invested vs potential reward I would look at Day Trading mainly for its 'simple rawness' of strategy implementation vs feedback loop (compared to starting a new business in an unknown area).
As with all ventures-especially trading- you find out a lot about yourself - your tolerance limit for risk and your character for discipline, psychology and general interest in the whole trading game and how much time you're willing to commit.
One side issue I found about giving up the normal day job is obvious but understated - the 'silence' of not working in the traditional way. I used to have daily interactions with colleagues, now that has stopped and I find myself interacting mainly through forums. It can be a lonely place - especially if you're trading isn't going too well or you are 'waiting'. And when that happens you can also find yourself doing things you wish you hadn't in your trades. Generally, you work your way round it but even though the world is going remote these days - its nice to actually interact with people and share stories, approaches with people a bit closer with the potential to actually meet.
I definitely miss the working together thing I guess is what I am saying. So if you're in the area and relate to what I am saying - get in touch.
