Am I right in understanding; Any MQL4 or MQL5 EA will work on both metatrader4 and metatrader5

Metatrader 4 and Metatrader 5 are using different order management. So in practical mql4 based EA won't run on MT5 terminal and vice versa.

As matfx wrote, no EA don't work on both MT4 and MT5, unless there are coded to use both trading sub-systems which are very different.

NO, ea will not work in mt4 and at the same time work in mt5. you will have to convert it first to mt5. Well who knows whether time will come when both will work. because there is upgrading in mt4 and 5
