NO... The indicator does not need to be present on the chart for the expert Advisor to work... The EA will call the indicator internally and read its values. Even if you place the indicator on the chart, it will not affect the EA.
As for the MACD, you can call the default MACD indicator with the iMACD command or you can call a custom MACD indicator using the iCUSTOM command.
