upgrade an mql file to a new version

One way - and the only way that I know - to make a new version of a custom indicator/EA except is to create a new mql file and copy-paste the previous version codes into the newly-created one and change what ever you like and finally put the name "version2" on the file. Now I want to know whether there is another way instead of making a new file or not ?!
Not sure what happened to the post I made about an hour ago... but I'll post again.

Give it a different name e.g. MyIndicator v2

Hi friends,
Is there any way to upgrade an indicator/EA which was created previously to a new version instead making changes in the initially-created indicator/EA file.
for example having ABC.ex4 version1 , ABC.ex4 version2 , ....
I know that we can create new files and copy-paste the main code there and then make changes there ,but I'm looking forward to see if there is any more logical way to have different versions of an mql file.
