I am looking for an alert system that will notify me by text messaging that the equity in my account has dropped below a certain amount. Is anyone aware of such an add-on and if so, where can I buy it?

You need an entire EA for this, on top of any notification alerts. equity that drops below margin call, in which case, all trades are closed immediately. You may want to consider margins, instead?
if you setup your EA to send email alerts to a provider like https://www.mql5.com/go?link=http://www.redrocksms.com/sms/User/ they will send the email message as an sms. You have to have a subscription though.
Would be cheaper if you just setup your phone to receive emails.
