Profitability is the positive risk adjusted return of a edge (strategy/system).
As traders, we fool ourselves with the illusion of what we need in order to profit from the markets.
- a holy grail strategy/system,
- 6 months live signal / forward results
- better optimizations
- more capital
- more information etc.
The truth is the only requirement to profit from the markets regardless of size, is risk.
Fundamentally, you only need to :
1. back a proven edge (with capital),
2. put money on the next setup
3. let the market do it's thing
No amount of foreshadowing is going to determine the outcome of the trades, but applied risk determines the outcome of an edge overtime.
Winning and losing is a given for everyone in trading.
But profitability is cultivated, your market edge(s) is the point of leverage.
Stop thinking of the edge's premise, it doesn't have to make rational sense. The market is irrational.
Stop thinking of the edge's optimizations, the best edge is the one that can adapt to market conditions rather than fit to market history.
Stop thinking of the edge's last month performance, the performance of an edge over a statistically significant sample size (10 000 trades) is a much more reliable indicator of the edge's validity over a statistically insignificant sample size such as last 10 trades.
Statistical significance filters out noise, and preserves the signal.
Stop thinking of deploying the edge, just do it! You don't need more capital, you can literally start with a cent account! You don't need more infrastructure, a good pc, stable connection and/or VPS is all you need. You don't need more confirmation, because none of that will guarantee anything but the wait for said confirmation.
You don't have to like an edge to profit from it.
As long as edge fulfills the requirements of a good trading approach (entry/exit, confirmation, risk management, volatility).
