Supply Demand Volume Profile

Adaptive Supply Demand Volume Profile

Adaptive Supply Demand Volume Profile is a MetaTrader 5 indicator that combines pivot-based dynamic lookback, volume-by-price analysis and automatic supply and demand zone detection.

Instead of using a fixed historical window only, the indicator can automatically adjust its analysis range according to the latest major pivot. Volume is then distributed across price levels to identify low-volume areas that may act as potential support, resistance, supply or demand zones.

The indicator displays the detected zones directly on the chart together with an optional horizontal volume profile and the complete lookback area used for the calculation.

How It Works

The calculation consists of three main stages.

1. Pivot Detection

The indicator searches for significant pivot highs and pivot lows using a configurable Pivot Detection Span.

A pivot requires price data on both sides of the candidate candle and is therefore confirmed with a delay equal to the selected pivot span.

Detected pivot locations are marked directly on the chart.

2. Adaptive Lookback

When Adaptive Lookback is enabled, the most recent detected major pivot becomes the starting point for the current analysis window.

The volume profile is calculated from this pivot to the current candle.

When Adaptive Lookback is disabled, the indicator uses the user-defined Fixed Lookback Bars value instead.

This allows traders to choose between a market-structure-driven calculation window and a traditional fixed historical range.

3. Volume Profile and Zone Detection

The complete price range inside the selected lookback window is divided into multiple price bins.

Each candle contributes its volume to every price bin touched by its High-Low range.

The indicator then compares each bin with its neighboring bins.

A price level can become a key zone when its volume is sufficiently lower than the neighboring profile levels according to the Zone Tolerance parameter.

These low-volume areas are displayed as horizontal supply and demand zones.

Supply and Demand Zone Interpretation

When current price is above a detected zone, the zone is displayed using the Demand color and can be evaluated as a potential support area.

When current price is below a detected zone, the zone is displayed using the Supply color and can be evaluated as a potential resistance area.

When price is currently inside the zone, the zone remains neutral.

The indicator does not automatically generate Buy or Sell trades.

Zones are technical reference areas that can be combined with price action, trend analysis, candlestick patterns or the user's own trading method.

Zone Strength Percentage

Each detected zone includes a percentage representing its relative volume scarcity compared with the highest-volume profile bin.

A higher percentage means that the zone contains relatively less volume compared with the strongest volume area inside the current lookback window.

This value is a profile measurement and should not be interpreted as a win probability.

Volume Profile

The optional horizontal volume profile is displayed to the right of current price.

Each horizontal bar represents the relative volume accumulated at that price level within the active lookback window.

Longer profile bars represent higher accumulated volume.

Shorter profile bars represent lower accumulated volume.

This provides additional visual context for identifying where trading activity has been concentrated across the current market structure.

Default Settings

Adaptive Lookback: Enabled
Fixed Lookback Bars: 100

Input Parameters

Profile Calculation

Adaptive Lookback
Automatically uses the most recent major pivot as the beginning of the analysis window.

Fixed Lookback Bars
Defines the number of historical bars used when Adaptive Lookback is disabled.

Pivot Detection Span
Controls the number of bars used on each side of a pivot candidate. Higher values identify larger market structures but increase pivot confirmation delay.

Profile Bins
Defines how many price levels are used when constructing the volume profile.

Profile Horizontal Width
Controls the maximum visual width of the horizontal profile.

Zone Tolerance
Controls how strongly a profile bin must differ from neighboring bins before it is identified as a key zone. Lower values make zone detection more selective.

Appearance

Show Volume Profile
Displays or hides the horizontal volume profile.

Show Lookback Background
Displays or hides the complete historical area used for the current calculation.

Neutral Levels Color
Controls the color of zones when current price is inside the level.

Demand Color
Controls the color of zones located below current price.

Supply Color
Controls the color of zones located above current price.

Alerts

The indicator can notify the user when a new major pivot is detected.

Available notification methods:

- Popup Alert
- Push Notification
- Email Alert

Alert delivery options are disabled by default and can be enabled individually.

Markets and Timeframes

The indicator does not contain a hard-coded trading symbol or timeframe.

It can therefore be tested on different MetaTrader 5 instruments and chart periods.

Because the calculation uses broker price and volume data, the exact profile and detected zones can differ between brokers and data providers.

Volume Data

The indicator uses real volume when it is provided by the MT5 symbol.

If real volume is unavailable, tick volume is used.

For Forex, CFDs and similar markets, volume data can differ significantly between brokers. Users should therefore expect some variation in profile values and detected zones across different trading servers.

Current Candle and Repaint Information

The currently forming candle is included in the live profile calculation.

As the current candle develops:

- Volume can increase.
- High or Low can expand.
- Profile boundaries can change.
- Zone percentages can change.
- Detected zones can appear or disappear.
- A newly detected pivot can change before its confirmation candle closes.

For this reason, the current live calculation should not be described as fully non-repainting.

Historical pivots are confirmed using the configured Pivot Detection Span.

Performance

Adaptive Supply Demand Volume Profile is designed for efficient MetaTrader 5 operation.

The historical state is calculated during the initial load.

During normal real-time operation, the indicator updates only the current data required by the active profile and reuses existing chart objects instead of recreating the complete display on every tick.

The indicator does not require DLL files, WebRequest, external indicators or network connections.

Trading Use

The indicator can be used to support:

- Supply and demand analysis
- Support and resistance analysis
- Market structure analysis
- Potential reversal-area identification
- Volume profile analysis
- Price-action confirmation
- Intraday and swing market analysis

Detected zones should be treated as areas of technical interest rather than automatic entry signals.

Risk Information

Supply and demand zones do not guarantee that price will reverse or hold at a specific level.

Traders should evaluate additional market context and apply appropriate position sizing, Stop Loss placement and risk management when using the indicator as part of a trading method.
