E-mail alert won't work--missing CRLF

I need some help getting the e-mail alerts to work.

In both the demo account and the live account, the "Test" e-mails worked perfectly, but the actual alert doesn't come through in either account. In the demo account, the journal entry said the message was missing the CRLF at the end. In the Live account, it says, "Mail: 451 See http://pobox.com/~djb/docs/smtplf.html".

I went to that site, but it wasn't much help, except to indicate it is related to the same problem that's in the demo account.

Does anyone have a solution to this?
