Check out the new article: From Evidence to Execution (Part 1): How to Log, Measure, and Decode a Trading Strategy Inside MetaTrader 5 AI.

An evidence-first workflow for Range Breakout in MQL5: a non-trading logger captures session/time windows and records 61 fields per breakout to CSV, with a strict split between entry features and hindsight labels. The MT5 AI Assistant processes the dataset in nine phases, helping validate data, quantify baselines, and locate stable, entry-usable thresholds for subsequent EA coding.

Most Expert Advisors become distorted versions of their original strategies. We start with clear rules, then add filters after a loss, narrow the time window after a weak session, and add confirmation candles for perceived safety. By the time the code compiles, it is a pile of patches wrapped around a memory of an idea. We drift not because we are careless, but because we never knew how our own strategy behaved. We knew the rules; we did not know the mechanics—whether wide ranges break better than narrow ones, whether breakout volume matters, whether a retest is a healthy sign or a warning. Without that knowledge, every development decision is a guess.

Instead of coding the Expert Advisor first, build an instrument that observes the market and records what the strategy would have seen. It does not trade or make decisions. It follows our initial rules, captures every component of the strategy as a measurable number, and writes the result to a file. We then hand that file to the MT5 AI Assistant and work through structured questions about what actually happened: what separates a genuine breakout from a false one, what the winners have in common, and when we should be doing nothing at all. By the time we open MetaEditor to write the real Expert Advisor, we are encoding evidence rather than guessing.
