spread + news

On XAUUSD I treat spread as a veto, not as a small cost. If the broker widens into a news candle, I skip the setup even when RSI and Stochastic agree. A correct direction with a bad fill is still a losing process. I wait until spread returns to normal, then I look at the H1 close again.

Every trade is about the cost of doing business .If you want to eek out a profit long term you have to factor it in ! .

Wise decision if you're scalping or trading on a low timeframe or a small custom chart structure. As I like to say, a trader ultimately must decide whether or not she/he wants to be in the market when a signal fires. In contrast thereto, a tick-based spread filter just gets in on a delay and a worse price.
