Basic doubt about EA and auto trading, need help pls

Hi guys,

I am very new to this mql5 site. Actually I heard that Expert Advisors can do automatic trading. Is it really working like that? 

I am a total beginner and I want to know how this EA thing works practically. Can someone please guide me from where I should start? Also, is there any simple free EA to test in demo account just to understand the process? 

Please help me out. Thanks guys.

Just to set realistic expectations: most free EAs do not have a lasting edge. Many are learning projects, abandoned experiments or simply marketing tools designed to look attractive in a backtest. A smooth equity curve in the Strategy Tester does not automatically mean the system will survive live markets.


Successful algorithmic trading takes a lot of work. You need to understand the market, brokers, test your assumptions, account for spreads and slippage, check robustness across different periods and conditions, and keep monitoring the system after deployment. That process takes time and there are no shortcuts.

It is not really a case of downloading something, clicking a few buttons and making money automatically. A free EA can still be useful as a learning tool or as a starting point, but I would be very sceptical of anyone presenting it as effortless or guaranteed.
