difference between position history , deal history in MT5

 
hi everyone, can someone explain to me what are the difference between position history and deal history in MT5 ? because in history tab there are few selection, position, deal, orders, deal and orders

Hi, good question, this can definitely be confusing at first.

From what I understand:

  • Orders = requests you send to the broker (buy/sell, pending orders, etc.)

  • Deals = the actual executions (fills). One order can result in multiple deals if it gets filled in parts.

  • Positions = the overall result of your trades. In MT5 (netting mode), all deals on the same symbol are combined into one position.

So:

  • Deal history shows every individual execution (very detailed)

  • Position history shows the final outcome of a trade (more summarized)

That’s also why your history tab lets you filter between orders, deals, and positions, they’re just different levels of detail of the same trading activity.

I might be simplifying it a bit, so feel free to correct me if I missed something.

A Position is actually an open trade, but you can use a Position ID in retrospect to track both Positions and Deals.
