Storage location of historical data / amount of historical data

Hello,

Is there any way to reduce the amount of historical data in MT5? I don't actually need it for 10 years, but actually only for the last week or so... And where is the data stored in which directory?

My problem is that the historical data is exceeding the storage capacity of my rented server. It only has 30 GB, and it's full. I can't think of any other reason for this other than the historical data. The problem now is that the indicators are no longer being calculated correctly – because the data points between the beginning of the year and today are missing... That's not nice, so it's a real problem. Does anyone know anything about these storage issues?

In MT5, you can manage historical data under Tools → Options → Charts . There, you can limit the "Max. Bars in Chart" and "Max. Bars in History."
The data itself is stored in the terminal's data folder ( File → Open data folder ), under bases\YourBrokerServer\history .

When your VPS is full, you can:

  • Reduce the value for “Max. bars in history”.

  • Manually delete old history files in the folder (MT5 will only re-download what is necessary).

  • Start MT5 with smaller limits per symbol.

This will save you storage space and your indicators should be calculated correctly again.

Okay, Mr. Mihai, thank you very much, that freed up 3.5 GB. That's good.

I was a bit confused that I couldn't delete all the history data – it might have been tied to some processes. I didn't think that was a problem, but I didn't look into the symbol folders either. Maybe I should have. Because when I restarted, the program only opened some of my traded charts properly with the EA and its settings. Other charts opened with the same symbols that were already there, but with different timeframes.

So I had to completely reset everything, which of course always comes with a certain amount of uncertainty...

The problem has been resolved, though. Thank you very much.

Okay, Mr. Fernando,

that won't be a problem in the future. I wasn't sure how the forum works anymore. But I admit I didn't look further due to time constraints. Thanks for the quick solution and response.
